Some puck stuff

Wow, it's been 15 whole days since I've posted here. Sorry about that. I only have one link right now, because I've been up since 9 a.m., and for anyone who knows me, they'll realize I was more than a little surprised that there are TWO nine o'clocks every day. Anyway, I lied, two links. Reason I'm up is to talk to Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon for an article I'm doing for
The New England Hockey Journal, so, please take a look at the site if you have any interest.

Sticking with hockey, I'm a day late, but it's articles like this one by Kevin Paul Dupont that have shaped me as a sportswriter, and make me want to take his job someday (no rush, Kev.) Just to show how prescient (or powerful) Dupont is, the next day, Sully skated the hell out of his team, and tore into them at practice. He's even threatening TWO-A-DAYS if they don't start shaping up and playing up to their potential. For those of you who don't really follow hockey, two-a-days during the season is almost unheard of. But hey, whatever works, Sully.

Who wants to be the Red Sox GM?

Not this guy, that's for sure. Had an interesting conversation with a friend tonight, in which we teamed up for some great commentary on this. The highlight was this:

Nick: This is like the alternate, alternate ending to Fever Pitch. Where the Sox win the World Series, and then they go get swept out of the playoffs, and then they win like 76 games next year.

Me: Yeah, this is the total downer of an epilogue. Like when you find out Kevin Arnold's dad dies at like 54.

I think that accurately describes a lot of people's feelings on Theo's departure right now. I'd post links now, but I really don't have the energy to watch the Globe try to cover this story as if they a. hadn't already blown it by reporting that the two sides had a deal this afternoon, and b. Don't have a very shady relationship with the Red Sox, since the Globe OWNS part of the team, and more and more each day becomes an arm of the Sox PR wing it seems. Good on the Herald, staying on top of this story, and breaking some news, and showing the people of Boston why it needs to be a two-paper town.
